Apple has acquired one of the best 3D Mapping companies, C3 Technologies. They wont be needed Google back end. iOS Maps will be soon revolutionized by this move.
Apple does not own the data that is used by the current application of Google Maps. Actually they only use the shell to utilize the Google Maps. This dependency is a headache for Apple since it limits them to provide much more features to its users. Android competition is already well known in the consumer’s market and Apple definitely prefer to cut this dependency asap. Acquiring of the C3 Technologies can be seen as a strategic move to provide high end product of 3D maps to its iOS users. C3 Technologies uses a method that based on a declassified government missile guidance method that is responsible for rendering the details of trees and building and smaller objects and Google street view can go behind in the race.
We can expect this awesome map technology in the new iOS in the iPhone 5 may be?
