Twitter has grown tremendously in a short time that people enjoy tweeting a lot these days. The company has enlisted the number of tweets exchanged per second on different occasions in 2011, on its year-in-review page.
Some events have resulted in exchange of more than 6000 tweets per second. The event of New Year this year, UEFA champions league in May, BET awards in June, Brazil’s elimination from Copa America in July and in same month FIFA women’s world cup, Steve Jobs’ resignation in Aug and MTV video music awards in same month, execution of Troy Davis in Sep, and the death of Steve Jobs in Oct, all these mobilized people from around the world so quickly that the number of tweets per second crossed the 6000 mark. In some these events the number even crossed 7000 and 8000 also.
