Google has been reported to have profited from the ads for illegal products generated by its flagship automated advertising system. This automated advertising system helps make the initial selection of the advertisements, appearing at the top of its search results.
Mostly the ads include unofficial London 2012 Olympics ticket resellers, cannabis and fake ID card sellers.
However, these ads have instantly been removed by Google after strict warning from BBC and police department.
It is noticeable that selling tickets on the open market without permission from the Olympic authorities is a criminal offence in the UK under the London Olympic and Paralympic Games Act 2006. Also, LiveOlympicTickets is not an officially recognized 2012 Olympic ticket reseller.
Google agreed to forfeit $500m for publishing online adverts from Canadian pharmacy companies, and LiveOlympicTickets which was Google’s top sponsored link for 2012 tickets.
