You may have heard it said that we’re living in the future. Thanks to the increasing pace of innovation, we have technology at our fingertips that was the stuff of science fiction just a few short years ago.
Now, Microsoft Research has unveiled a remarkable new technology called Illumishare, which allows users to interact with physical objects remotely. A user can place a physical object in the designated area and the object will appear as a digital projection on the other user’s work area.

The Illumishare project is still being developed, but the attached video demonstrates how the device works. Its device can be used for games such as playing cards but its true strength is the possible business applications.
Whether someone is a product designer, an artist, a mechanic, or police detective, being able to see a physical item quickly and in detail can be very important. Architects and designers can work together on projects and see the changes as they are being made.
Police detectives can show physical evidence to specialists without waiting days for the physical object to be mailed. Any project that relys on sharing physical information quickly can benefit by this new technology.
