The Cheetah is also a footwear brand but right now I am talking about a robot with same name funded by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and developed by Boston Dynamics. This robot, Cheetah, has set a new record of running on a treadmill at the speed of 18 mph.
The four legged robot was speed tested on Monday and eventually broke some 22 years’ old record achieved by a two legged robot during a run-test at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) at the speed just above 13 mph.
“We designed the treadmill to go over 50 mph but we plan to get off the treadmill and into the field as soon as possible. We really want to understand the limits of what is possible for fast-moving robots.” said Dr. Alfred Rizzi, chief robotics scientist at Boston Dynamics.
DARPA and Boston Dynamics performed this stunt to make advances in the science of Robotics.
