Children have been sent on earth to ensure that parents can never have a peaceful afternoon nap, never be able to sleep in on a weekend and most importantly family get together can never be complete without kids running wild, crashing into things, hence making sure that you never finish a conversation or a meal in peace. But for ages now, board games have made parents realize the power of boards to make kids play relatively less dangerously.
In olden days, there used to be a limited number of board games but unlike children today, kids then used to never get bored or tired of them. Today we are going to feature 3 games that have steadfastly remained on the horizon through all these decades.
Scrabble:
Widely known as “Words with Friends” now, Scrabble has always been parent’s favourite game. Scrabble makers have been highly successful at doping parents into believing that it will help kids with increasing their vocabulary. Children on the other hand play it with a mission to make new words and claim their existence in Oxford dictionary with utmost sincerity. This game has defiantly stood the test of time and has come as a winner, hands down. The hardboard scrabble is still around and makes pretty good revenues but it has also made it big in the digital world. Zynga’s Words with Friends (pictured below) is among the top ranked online games since 2009. With multi platform support, it can be played online, on Facebook, on your android phone or your iphone/ipad, the experience is the same old and more fun as it allows you to play 20 games at a time. There are many other online versions of Scrabble available. Websites such as Internet Scrabble Club allow you to play in languages other than English, such as; French, Romanian, Italian and Dutch.
Monopoly:
All the rest leave when money comes into play, and we have been taught this since our early ages by the epic game of monopoly. This seemingly unending game has been a recreation for decades now. During vacations it has known to be kept under lock and key to be resumed the next day, such is the addiction to become the richest. Children as well as elders are known to be equally engrossed in this money game. Online versions have been circulating the wild web for some time now. Paid versions developed by EA sports are available for Android and Apple products (pictured below).
Risk:
Money and power has been the biggest causes of dissension in the human history. But world dominance has kept many a smart heads up all night and among them most were playing Risk. Risk is all about power, politics and strategy. It is among that genre of strategy games in which you need a bit of luck to be on your side too. Adults seem to enjoy this game a bit more than kids do but then they understand power better too. This game has been the cause of major sibling and spouse fights but the fun never goes out of this game. Paid and free apps are available for Android (left picture) and Apple (right picture) gadgets, though online gameplay which allows you to enjoy it completely is only available in the Android paid app. None the less a very exciting game and a good carry on from olden times.
So gather your friends, online and relive some old memories.
