The sun is too hot and far away, the moon is too cold and we wouldn’t want to mess the clean beauty and Mars seems like a distant promise. So we don’t have much choice other than saving the planet earth for future generations. Now saving the earth means going green, hence we all need to give up our gas guzzling vehicles and go for fuel efficient cars. And this is what Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) is all about. Every year, for the last 25 years, Shell gets car giants, amateurs and students to design and build some fuel efficient prototype and the most efficient takes the prize away. The SEM for America was held in March and SEM Europe in May, results can be viewed here.
SEM Asia is going to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 4th-7th of July. 130 teams from 18 countries are going to participate in the event. This year’s line-up uses conventional as well as a variety of alternative energy sources to achieve optimum fuel efficiency.
One of the most talked about car is an entry from Pakistan by the Team HammerHead. They will be competing under the Futuristic Prototype category. Their claim to fame is that their car travels 500kms per litre of petrol. Let’s see how the competition turns out for them as the event unfolds in a couple of days.
Good luck to every participating team, and huge thanks for working today to save our tomorrow.
