Gone are the days when geeks used to be pimple-faced, bespectacled, coy, shy lads. Geeks are still geeks but much more stylish now. The huge glasses that used to cover their eyes and made them shy has changed to large rimmed glasses that exude style and infuses confidence in them. The un-kept hair, that come naturally to geeks, have taken the fashion world by storm and people now spend hours and hundreds of dollars to achieve that look.

But my focus today is the geek bags. There are one too many and are constantly confused with messenger bags. So to set it straight for once and for all, every messenger bag is NOT a geek bag. A geek bag has to have too many pockets, did I emphasize ‘too many’ enough? Now a normal person will need his bag to have a pocket for his mobile or and an iPod, so may be 2 pockets besides the main storage?! Whereas, a geek needs to carry around, at all times, his cellphone, his tablet, his portable gaming console, a very good pair of headphones, extra batteries or a portable charging device, some extra storage device, a camera sometime, or even the laptop/netbook. So the bag has to be padded for extra protection of the oh-so precious devices and I personally like having some extra pockets to stash the cables, because there are just too many of them and detangling is not a fun game anymore.

The one bag that I have been carrying around and am absolute in love with this Ducti bag (pictured above, left). Not only is it trendy and easy to carry around, the 7 pockets make it really easy for me to stuff all my essential in it. If you are willing to carry around a bigger bag, you should order this Bag of Holding by thinkgeek (pictured on the right), and it does hold everything I can think of.  So these are just the guidelines for choosing a bag if you really want to show people your geeky side.

Happy shopping.
