Mobile phone market is currently flooded by Android phones, and Google is enjoying the fruits of its creation. But I have started to feel tired of this mobile OS, as expressed in my previous article, and willing to try something new out.
What I wished for, heard Mozilla I guess. The company who has one of best Web browsers has announced the new mobile operating system, Firefox Mobile OS.
Even though the company doesn’t wish its OS to be considered as a direct rival of iOS and Android, following the footsteps of Google its latest operating system is built on Linux. It is seen as a new development in the market and Mozilla is likely to capture a good share of the market in few years time with its open source software.
Based on the latest Web standard, HTML5, Firefox Mobile OS will allow the devs to create mobile applications that can be run on any other platform. This easiness of creating apps on this new mobile platform is expected to attract developers from all corners of the world.
Mozilla has succeeded to win the support of Etisalat, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica, and Sprint, which makes it sound like a big time competition on the way for two major market players, Apple and Google.
First handsets to run on FM OS are to be launched in Brazil next year.
