galaxy mega How big is too big for a smartphone? Samsungs 6.3 inch Galaxy Mega allegedly leaks

Except Apple it seems like every other smartphone maker is racing to introduce a phone that has larger screen than its competitors. As of now Samsung has a clear lead in this competition as most of its smartphones have  monstrous displays including the Galaxy Note II with 5.5-inch screen and Galaxy S4 with 5.0-inch screen.

Now a new Samsung device with a super large display for smartphone has leaked on the internet that even raises the bar of large display devices and takes the figure to astonishing 6.3-inches. The device as reported by SlashGear is dubbed as Galaxy Mega and its most notable feature is its large super screen. The device is reportedly going to hit the market later this year and will make the company’s lineup of hybrid devices even stronger.

As 6.3-inch display for the Samsung Galaxy Mega is seemingly too large Samsung is also going to offer the device in a 5.8-inch flavor for those who would like to have a device that is less bulky. According to SamMobile the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 caries a model number of GT-I9200 and will be released on June 17, 2013 in Black and White colors. While the Galaxy Mega 5.8-inch model carries the model number GT-I9152 and will be released for public on May 27, 2013 in White color.

Although Samsung’s Galaxy devices have been pretty popular in the Android community and its Galaxy S, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab lineups of devices have been doing well it looks like company wants to explore all kinds of markets and bridge the gap between the Galaxy Tab 8.0 which it recently released and 5.5-inch Galaxy Note with the Galaxy Mega lineup.

While I couldn’t imagine carrying a smartphone around that has that kind of monstrous size the Korean brand certainly thinks that there is a market for that and will leave no stone unturned in putting that thought to test.

Although the news has been posted by reputable websites who claim to have received the information from their ‘reliable’ sources the existence of such devices is still doubtful and may be someone is trying to make a fool out of the tech news reporting community. However looking at the recent attempts at releasing large screen devices we can expect anything from Samsung at this point.

So now the question is do we really need a smartphone that is sized at 5.8 or 6.3-inches? If you ask us we would say no. There is a limit to everything and if Samsung wants to target the market that loves screen sizes from 5.5-inches up to 6.5-inches then it should market them as tablets instead of phablets or hybrids. There may be people who would like to have a small sized tablet, which has a screen size lower than the iPad mini (7.9-inch) or Galaxy Note 8 (8-inch) or Nexus 7 (7-inch) but marketing that device as a smartphone and selling it to people who are looking for a smartphone and not a smaller tablet doesn’t makes sense.
