In this post you will learn how to set a custom ringtone on your iPhone. iPhone is one of the best smartphones out there and it is certainly the most feature filled one too. Today’s smartphones are capable of doing almost everything you can do on a computer as they have fast internet connections, big touch screen displays and more. No matter how feature-filled and easy to use Apple iPhone may be there are still a few things that it lacks and users have to take a long route to do things they want.
One of the things that you cannot do easily is setting a custom ringtone on your iPhone. Although the process does not require jailbreaking but the proces is still quite not as simple as you would want it to be. Here in this post we will show you how you can set a custom ringtone on your iPhone without jailbreaking it in a few simple steps. Using these steps you can use any 30 second song of your choice as your ringtone on your iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
The process is same for both Windows and Mac users.
Let’s get started and set a custom ringtone on your iPhone…
On the iTunes
1 ) Open iTunes and find the song you want to set as your ringtone. After doing that right click on that song from within the iTunes and then click on the ‘Get Info’ option from the menu.
2 ) From the ‘Get Info’ window that opens click on the ‘Options’ tab from the top. On the ‘Options’ page you will see two options with numerical fields right next to them titled ‘Start Time’ and ‘Stop Time’. Here you can choose the part of the song you want to use as ringtone as iPhone only allows users to set a ringtone with 30 seconds lenght.
You can either enter the part from the middle of the song say ‘start time: 1.30′ and ‘Stop Time: 2:00′ or you can leave the start time at zero and set then stop time to 0.30 if you want the first 30 seconds of the audio file as your ringtone.
3 ) After you have done that click ‘OK’ and then right click on the song again. From the menu click on ‘Create AAC Version’ option. Now the duplicate file of the chosen song will be created with the lenght you specified.
4 ) On the new AAC version you created, right click and then click on ‘Show in Windows Explorer’ option. From the Explorer rename the file by changing its extension from ‘.m4a’ to ‘.m4r’.
Note: Sometimes you are not able to change the extension of the file by simply renaming it, in that case follow this guide.
5 ) After you have changed the format of the file open it in iTunes and then click on the iTunes library button located on top left side of your screen. From their click on tones and you will see your newly created custom tone for your iPhone.
6 ) Now connect iPhone to iTunes and then go to the summary page of your device. There on top of the summary page you will find a navigation bar with options like Summary, Info, Apps and more. From there click on tones and then from the tones page click on sync tone and then on the ‘Sync’ button located on bottom right side of the screen.
On the iPhone
Now as your tone has been synced on your iPhone follow the steps below to use it.
1 ) Open settings and then tap on Sounds option.
2 ) Now click on the Ringtone option located unders ‘Sounds and Vibration Patterns’.
3 ) From there select the ringtone you just created and voila! You are now done.
So by following the steps above you can set up a custom ringtone on your iPhone without jailbreaking it. The process is fairly simple and looks easier when you get used to it. Give it a try and let us know if you have any problems in the comments section below.
