bilde Students create automatic locker door for their disabled school fellow

Despite the advancements in technologies we have not been able to make the lives of disabled people less sufferable and they still have to face several problems in doing simplest tasks in their day to day routine. To solve this problem researchers have been working on different types of machines that could aid disabled people and make their lives easier than what they have right now.

To somewhat solve the problem for their fellow student Nick Torrance who is suffering from disability and in order to make his life at school easier his high school fellows at the Pinckney Community High School have made him an  automatic locker opener. The locker opener was made using the limited available resources at the high school, which is known for its robotics program.

How this automatic locker works is pretty simple, on a normal locker Micah Stuhldreher and Wyatt Smrcka used a sensor. The sensor is capable of detecting motion made in front of it and it opens the locker when hand is waved next to it. So Torrance or any other disabled person could just wave his or her hand over the sensor and it would open without the need of getting out of the wheelchair.

It took a few months for Stuhldreher and Smrcka to come up with something that Torrence could use and the final result of their efforts is impressive, which should be used for other disabled students at this and other schools and colleges as well.

While it is not a revolutionary or groundbreaking invention it is still a simple thing that could greatly affect the lives of disabled high school students who suffer while opening their lockers and require help of their fellows in order to open the locker door.
