Not too long ago, Samsung announced their new Exynos 5 Octa system on chip (Soc) which has a staggering 8 cores! The SoC is based on a new 4+4 architecture from ARM which brings 4 blazing fast Cortex A15 cores to handle taxing tasks, such as 3D games; and 4 milder Cortex A7 cores to take on mundane tasks. This new design helps provide greater performance than its predecessors while being more battery efficient, it’s a pretty sweet deal.

The Exynos 5 Octa that is rumored to power the Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is clocked at 1.8GHz, along with that, the phone is rumored to come with 2GB of RAM which will make the S4 a device with amazing multitasking capabilities.

Smartphone screens get better and bigger each year, in the past few years we’ve the seen beautiful 4+ inch HD screens with a resolution of 1280×720, they became the standard for high end Android phones in 2012. But we’ve seen a new trend emerge this year, smartphones in 2013 are going to feature 5″ FullHD screens boasting a resolution of 1920×1080, that’s going to give them a staggering pixel density of 440ppi.

Samsung isn’t one to stay behind their rivals, seeing as there are already phones on the market which are going to feature this new generation of screen, it’s pretty safe to assume that Samsung’s new flagship is going to come with a 5″ FullHD screen. In fact, the Galaxy S4 might stand out in the crowd, Samsung is known for using OLED screens on their phones, OLED screens are the best screens on the market, they provide deeper blacks and better colors than LCD screens the competition uses. According to rumors, Samsung’s flagship is going to ship with the worlds first 5″ FullHD OLED screen, if true, it will blow away the competition.

3. An Unbreakable Screen

There’s no point in having a large beautiful display that’s going to break as soon as you drop it, if you’ve got clumsy hands, Samsung’s got your back. The new screen isn’t just going to be pretty to look at, rumor has it that the S4 is going to ship with an new kind cover glass that’s virtually unbreakable.

The new cover glass, isn’t a glass, it’s a new kind of plastic which is a lot more robust than conventional cover glass. Sony’s flagship for 2013, the Xperia Z, has a robust design that’s dust proof and waterproof, seeing how manufacturers are trying to make rugged phones, this one might turn out to be true after all.

4. An Improved 13 Mega-Pixel Camera

Samsung’s Galaxy S3 was rumored to come out with a 12MP camera, but Samsung decided to go with a a 8MP camera with mediocre performance due to design constraints, it’s definitely one area where the Galaxy S4 can bring vast improvements.

The fourth generation of Samsung’s Galaxy is stated to feature a new 13MP sensor that’s going to capture better images than the sensor found in its predecessor. The 13MP sensor at the back is capable of capturing 1080 video, and there’s also a 2MP camera at the front that’s capable of 720p video chat.

5. Qi Wireless Charging

Qi Wireless charging has been catching on very quickly. A lot of new devices are supporting this new charging standard, and a great thing about Qi wireless charging is that you don’t need proprietary chargers you can charge your phone with just about any Qi wireless charging accessory you like. At the moment Nokia has a range of wireless chargers available, but there are plenty more to come as more manufacturers catch on.

A rumor popped up yesterday that Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is going to support Qi wireless charging, and Samsung is going to launch separate accessories.

Only time will tell whether these rumors are true or not, but there’s one thing we can be sure of; Samsung’s latest addition to the Galaxy line up remains the most anticipated Android phone of 2013.
