Despite being very powerful and equipped there is one sensor that is still missing from modern smartphones and that is thermometer. Of course a device connected with the internet shows all sorts of information about the atmosphere but what about when you are out camping and do not have WiFi/3G or you want to measure the temperature of a specific part of your house?
For that purpose a new accessory has been introduced called the Thermodo. It is currently running its campaign at the crowd funding website Kickstarter, where it has successfully gathered amount higher than its initial goal. The device is capable of accurately measuring temperature on your iPhone or Android device. How Thermodo works is pretty simple, it goes into the headphone jack of the device and starts transmitting information about the weather. As it is inserted in the audio jack, it sends audio signal through the temperature sensor to the device where the dedicated app reads the signal and translates it into read able temperature report from the user. Using Thermodo is very convenient as all you need to do is place it into the audio jack and launch the official Thermodo app.
Not only does it works with the official app made specifically for it but RoboCat, which is the company behind Thermodo has also added support to many other third party weather applications that also translate signals coming from the Thermodo sensor and display them to the users. The Thermodo takes power from the smartphone itself, which means you don’t have to worry about replacing its batteries or charging.
The device is specifically designed for outdoors as its main purpose is to provide temperature reports when there’s no internet connection. Although its good for outdoors it also allows users to measure temperature in different parts of their homes and see where temperature is high or low. As weather apps mostly provide temperature reports of the whole city or towns the Thermodo tells you the temperature of your washroom as well as kitchen.
The Thermodo is very portable. It can be placed in a pocket or if you like to keep it with you all the time it can also be added to your keychain along with your car and home keys.
Right now Thermodo has successfully received over $48,000 of its $30,000 goal with 32 days still remaining. According to RoboCat the devices will be shipped to those who have pre-ordered by August of this year. If you want one for yourself you can get it $25 to the project.
